Luxury with style in Balmain
Austral Court, a grand 1880’s mansion converted in the 1920’s to eight, one bedroom apartments was a heritage listed asset on the Leichardt Council Heritage Register. These wonderful old world apartments exuded the charm and character of a bygone era, with its
grand foyer and staircase, high ceilings, fireplaces, large timber and bay windows. Although occupied at the time of acquisition, the building was in very poor condition and lacked most of the necessities, fire safety or security.
Smarta Property recognised the ‘diamond in the rough’
In its acquisition Smarta Property recognised the planning approval difficulties of council and acquired the property as Company Title. Common Property upgrades were initiated to enable the property to meet code and the properties were sold off. A provision was made for the sale of a freestanding laundry at the rear yard that had potential to be converted to a residence. It’s sale at auction made the news as Sydney’s most expensive laundry.
